Super Typhoon Hagupit strengthens as it nears Philippines

 

Hagupit, or "Ruby" in the Philippines, has gusts of up to 250km/h (155mph) and is forecast to reach land on Saturday.
It is on course for the Eastern Samar province and the city of Tacloban, where thousands were killed by Typhoon Haiyan a year ago.
Tens of thousands of people, many of whom still live in temporary shelters, are moving away from coastal areas.

Your Flu Shot May Not Protect You This Winter

Getting a flu shot is a good idea. This winter, though, it might not be as effective as you’d hope.
Of the early flu samples, taken between Oct. 1 and Nov. 22, less than half were good matches for this year’s formula, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Wednesday in an advisory for doctors. Flu viruses mutate over time, and the lead time needed to develop the vaccine can create a disconnect.
The flu shot is still a good idea. It will protect against some strains that are circulating and can reduce complications even among the mutated varieties.
